Education through hockey is a terrific opportunity for any young player. Being able to attend a post-secondary institution and continue to play high level hockey is a goal for many players and their parents. But how do you get there? What do you need? What is a scholarship? What is financial aid? If you have questions like these or are just looking to learn more about the College and University system this information session is for you!

Tom McEvay – Presenter
The West Coast Hockey Prep Camp is pleased to be partnered with Tom McEvay in bringing you these information sessions. Tom has been an educator in the Alberni Valley for 34 years and for the past 25 he has been a school principal. In 2004 Tom joined the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the BCHL in a volunteer capacity as their Educational Advisor. Tom was well suited for this role not just because of his background in education. Tom played his Minor and Junior hockey in Victoria before heading to University on a National Molson’s Hockey Scholarship in 1973. Over 75 players have moved on to college or university hockey with Tom’s guidance and support. In addition to working with Bulldog players, Tom advises young hockey players and their families from all over North America. Tom has now retired as a School Principal and he devoting more time to his consulting business that includes work in this field where his knowledge is extensive.
Educational Opportunities Through Hockey – Information Sessions
When: Attend the session for your week at the West Coast Junior Prep Camp in Port Alberni – July 19, 23, 30 or August 6.
Where: Alberni Athletic Hall, Port Alberni BC.
Details: Open to players and their parents involved in the West Coast Junior Prep Camps. The length of the session will be approximately 90 minutes. Sessions will start after the last ice session (approximately 8:00pm)

- Harry Zolnierzyczk – 2010-11 captain Brown University, NCAA Ivy League player of the year, now with the Philadelphia Flyers
- Brian Stewart – All American goaltender at NCAA Northern Michigan University, graduated and now playing pro hockey
- Daniel Moriarty – Captain of Ivy League Harvard University, graduated in June 2012 and playing pro.
- Devin Timberlake – Two time captain of Brown University now using his degree working in the high end financial sector in Vancouver.
- Frank Slubowski – currently the Hobbie Baker nominated #1 goaltender with Western Michigan of the NCAA Division 1.
- Isaac Smeltzer – CIS Brock University graduate now playing for Colorado of the ECHL.
