This past November, two major hockey tournaments took place in opposite side of the country. From November 2-11, the 2023 Men’s World Under-17 Championships took place in Summerside & Charlotteville, P.E.I. Around the same time in Dawson Creek, B.C. the National Women’s Under-18 Championships were under way. These tournaments, although being so far apart geographically, showcased a great number of West Coast Hockey Prep Camp Alumni. Better yet, most of the alumni that were represented at this tournament took home medals!
At the 2023 Men’s World Under-17 Hockey Championships Team Canada White took home gold defeating USA 2-1 in OT, on that winning team were West Coast Hockey Prep Camp Alumni Koen Cleaver (goalie) and JT Ward (team athletic therapist). Koen is a local to the Port Alberni area and has been a regular attendee at camp since a young age. Koen currently plays for Pacific Coast Academy in the CCSHL and is a draft pick of the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the WHL.
