Matt Hewitt, University of British Columbia Varsity Goalie will suit up for the Vancouver Canucks tonight replacing injured Ryan Miller. Matt has worked as a goalie coach at the West Coast Hockey Prep Camp in the past, most recently in 2014. Any players who have attended camp will remember Matt, and be excited for him tonight. Would you believe I had tickets for the game tonight against the St Louis Blues and gave them up? Matt, I’m sorry I won’t be there in your corner but Prep Campers around the world will be watching and rooting for you! This is not the first time the Canucks have drawn on UBC talent to fill in, but it has been about 12 years. In 2003 UBC goalie Chris Levesque had the same incredible opportunity and came very close to being called on when Canucks goalie Johan Hedberg collided with a player in the 3rd period. Here’s to hoping for some action Matt.
I used to love warmup as a player so I told him to enjoy every second of it. – Sven Butenschon, Former NHL player, Current UBC Head Coach, Leslie Global Sports Skills Coach.
