el paso rhinosOne of our missions at the West Coast Hockey Prep Camp is to connect players and coaches.  This morning UBC Assistant Coach Tyler Kuntz wrote to let us know that our mission is taking hold.  Anyone that visited us this summer in Week 2, 3, or 4, most likely saw the athletic, monstrous, and focused Hungarian Behemoth in net for all 3 weeks named Adam Vay.  Players that try 3 weeks of camp normally fatigue in their third week.  Standing at 6 foot 7, 220 pounds of Hungarian muscle, Adam seemed to get better as the weeks went on.  Our goalie coaches liked Adam’s poise and athleticism.  Fitness coaches raved about his shear strength, flexibility, and focus.  The Kitchen staff couldn’t help but notice how much he could eat.

Glen Williamson recommended to Adam that he take a break from his Junior league in Russia and join us at Prep Camp.  Glen is the coach of the Hungarian National Teams, my mentor, and a long time friend of Prep Camp.  He has been with us every year I’ve been there.  As European players are not eligible to play Junior A in Canada, we looked to our strong coaching staff and their network.  Tyler Kuntz, Bob Dever, and others made a few calls, and Adam found himself on his way to the most unlikely of hockey destinations, the El Paso Rhinos.  The Rhinos compete as part Midwest Division of the Western States Hockey League (WSHL).We are happy to announce that according to coach Kuntz, “Coach Herman just emailed me today saying how good Adam has been playing and more importantly has been a great fit with his group and in the community.”
